What’s next.

Continued progress in reinventing the relationship between people and technology.

Mission-driven innovation

We recently launched our first AI-powered virtual assistant in the US. Built in order to enhance interactions between clinicians and patients, whilst simultaneously reducing workforce burnout, this assistant further streamlines clinical workflow for clinicians. This AI-powered virtual assistant is a one of a kind innovation for the highly complex and life-and-death stakes of the healthcare industry.

Great companies innovate continuously and incrementally. They innovate through disruption – whether it be large-scale industry shifts, like the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, or an unexpected and unwelcome disruption like the malware attack we experienced on June 27 of last year.

For the past two years, we have been accelerating the use of AI and cloud technology in our many healthcare solutions — innovating with intention.

Recently, our healthcare division reached an important milestone. Building on years of success in powering virtual assistants for the world’s top automotive and consumer brands, including Audi, BMW, Dominos, Ford, GM and USAA, we introduced an AI-powered virtual assistant solution and prototype smart speaker specifically designed for our healthcare clients.

The new Nuance Dragon Medical Virtual Assistant will further streamline clinical workflows for the 500,000 clinicians that already rely on Dragon Medical every day for their clinical documentation.

63% of healthcare executives worldwide already actively invest in AI technologies, and 74% say they are planning to do so, according to a recent PwC study.

But this AI-powered virtual assistant solution is not the typical consumer AI application or redeployment AI and cloud technology from consumer applications. It is unique to the highly complex and life-and-death stakes of healthcare. It enables any individual using specialised medical terminology to communicate naturally with high accuracy and no voice training across a range of devices, applications, and settings.

Our Dragon Medical Virtual Assistant news underscores our mission to create solutions that unburden clinicians, who currently spend an estimated 43% of their day at a computer. This is producing unacceptable levels of clinician stress and workforce burnout. As such, healthcare providers must be empowered to reclaim more time for focused patient care – and their patients can help.

Our research shows 97% of patients are comfortable with technology being used by their providers – so long as it plays a supporting role and does not distract or interfere with their conversation time with their clinicians.

We hear them, and now their clinicians will have more freedom to hear them as well.
